Stable Neighborhoods

Refurbished victorians line Elmwood.

Allentown...the Parkside area...the Elmwood strip. These and many other neighborhoods are among our region's strongest assets.

In recent years, economic and demographic changes in our region have challenged the social fabric of many of our treasured neighborhoods. In order to improve the region’s economic vitality and overall quality of life, it is important for us to work at the neighborhood level.  We need to recognize that improving a neighborhood requires a multi-disciplinary approach that works across sectors to achieve common goals.

The goal of our Stable Neighborhoods Path is to promote stable neighborhoods in the Buffalo Niagara region by providing comprehensive, multi-sector support to spur revitalization.

Here's how we plan to accomplish this goal...

We will support appropriate neighborhood development by:

  • Identifying and replicating effective national neighborhood revitalization models
  • Identifing “pilot” neighborhoods and partners
  • Supporting comprehensive neighborhood revitalization programs/strategies

We will foster collaboration among organizations working to improve the quality of life in the region's neighborhoods and expand leadership capabilities at the community level through:

  • The convening meetings to build trust and make connections among organizations
  • Support for collaborative efforts within and across sectors
  • Support of community-level leadership training efforts

Lastly, we will work to increase civic engagement/participation by neighborhood residents by:

  • Supporting efforts to engage local residents and increase their ability to influence the decisions affecting their lives
  • Supporting community organizing efforts
